At 5:21 this morning, Lafayette Fire Department responded to 320 South Pierce Street to a reported structure fire. When firefighters arrived, heavy flames were coming from the back of the house. Firefighters battled the blaze for approximately thirty minutes. The early morning fire caused heavy damage to the house. The house was vacant. Most of the windows and doors were boarded up. Fire investigators determined that the fire originated in a rear room of the dwelling. It is unknown if individuals were squatting or someone intentionally set the home on fire.
