St. Mary Parish Sheriff's officials say a now-former corrections deputy was arrested Thursday afternoon for allegations that she was trying to bring a band item into the jail and that she had conversations of a sexual nature with an inmate at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.

Sheriff Gary Driskaell's office says 20-year-old Malayie Myon McBride of Amelia was arrested on the following charges:

  • Once Count of Malfeasance in Office-Sexual Conduct
  • Once Count of Malfeasance in Office
  • Once Count of Possession of Trying to Bring Contraband into a Penal Institution

Officials with the Sheriff's Office say they were tipped off that it was possible the woman was trying to/or had brought a phone into the jail. Their investigation started, and they say they found she brought a phone into the jail.

They also allege there were phone calls of a sexual nature made with an inmate.

The investigation is ongoing.
