The New Orleans Police Department has received a $364,000 grant to be used for training 40 officers in units that handle sex crimes, child abuse and domestic violence.

Thursday's grant is from the Patrick F. Taylor Education Fund for Continuing Education of New Orleans Police Officers.

Police superintendent Ronal Serpas says officers must continuously upgrade and update their skills to be at their best. He says the grant will help officers become more competent when doing sensitive interviewing. It will also give them training in the use of high-tech tools now being used in gathering forensic evidence
