Eric Vining Of Franklin, Accused Of Trying To Kill Parents, Dies In Prison
A man accused of trying to kill has parents has died in jail. St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Herbert says 36-year-old Eric Vining of Franklin passed away Saturday night at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.
Herbert says "he was returning from a shower when the correctional staff noticed that he appeared to be ill. They summoned the medical staff who began treatment. They summoned for Acadian Ambulance and during efforts to revive him he died at the facility...We (had) checked on him all day and he was doing fine."
Vining was facing two counts of attempted second-degree murder. He was arrested on July 23rd after investigators say Vining cut his mother's and father's throats with a knife.
The parish coroner's office is performing an autopsy to determine how Vining died.
