George Rodrigue To Be Honored With New Iberia Park
NEW IBERIA, La. (AP) — Artist George Rodrigue — whose paintings featuring a small blue dog are known around the world — will be honored in his hometown with a memorial park.
The Daily Iberian reports (http://bit.ly/1QmulDe ) that the George Rodrigue Memorial Park will be located on the town's main street.
Rodrigue was an internationally recognized artist and New Iberia native best known for his paintings featuring a small blue dog. Rodrigue died of cancer in December 2013.
The blue dog will be commemorated at the park in the form of an 8-foot, three-sided sculpture.
The New Iberia City Council announced the plans for the part this week at a meeting.
The park also will have a mural representative of Rodrigue's earlier work, which emphasized darker shaded oak trees.
