Gulf Coast Rip Current Forecast for Louisiana Beachgoers

So many people from South Louisiana will be traveling I-10 in the next day or two for their Fourth of July celebrations and they'll soon be on their favorite beach.

For the Fourth, beachgoers from across Acadiana will want to cool off or relax in places like Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Pensacola, and Destin, Florida. Sadly, we've had several reports of drownings already this summer and the gulf may be a bit unfriendly days after Independence Day.

One thing you will want to be aware of this weekend on the beach is the color of the flags. If you see a Red Flag, you should exercise extreme caution while in the water, and if a double Red Flag is flying, stay out of the water.

Rip currents have been responsible for several drownings already this summer along the Gulf Coast and if conditions are favorable for them, you need to not be in the water.

So, let's get to the rip current forecast for this weekend and you will see that on Saturday rip currents may be present near the shore. Remember never to get too deep in the water when conditions are rough; if you get caught in a rip current, you should swim with the current and not against it.

If there's any bit of good news regarding the rip current threat for July 4th, it seems to be relatively low, but with a storm in the gulf, conditions could deteriorate fast by the weekend.

So, this is a heads-up for those who may be spending a few days on the beach once the fireworks are done this week.
