It has been announced that the historic boarding school in Grand Coteau, Louisiana will be closing at the end of the 2024-25 academic year.

The Academy of Sacred Heart announced that it will be closing its boarding facilities at Moreau Hall.

In a unanimous vote, the board of trustees voted to close the historic boarding facility after years of not being able to fully occupy the building. In a statement, the school said that since COVID-19 the boarding house has not been fully occupied and that through recruitment measures, they've not been able to attract new occupants.

Since the pandemic, the school has seen a major decline in international students attending the school, thus contributing to the decline in students residing on the grounds of Sacred Heart.

The school says it will assist those currently living on campus as they transition away from housing on this historic campus.

Administration at the school stressed in their statement to the alum that Moreau Hall is dedicated to serving its residents for the remaining portion of the school year, and that they appreciate all that Moreau Hall has done for the community through the years.

Students from across the world have called Moreau Hall home for hundreds of years, and it's truly sad to see such a historic boarding facility go way in South Louisiana.

The Academy of Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau was founded in 1821 as an all-girls Catholic school. And we should note here that the school will remain open, it is just the boarding facilities closing at the end of the 2024-25 Academic year.

Moreau Hall has been the home for young ladies in grades eight through high school.
