How Much Do You Spend on Halloween?
Halloween is Thursday across the country, but Halloween spending started weeks ago. Americans are expected to spend $8.8 billion dollars this year.
I began to wonder what we are spending all that money on. Costumes and decorations are big items on the list, but we spend a ton of cash on candies and treats to hand out to trick-or-treaters.
The average American will spend close to $90 dollars on Halloween this year, according to the National Retail Federation.
“Spending hasn’t changed much over the past few years, but we are seeing a noticeable increase in consumers whose Halloween purchases are inspired by their friends, neighbors and even celebrities on social media,” NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay said.
Total spending for this year is expected to be the 3rd highest since surveys began 15 years ago. Americans spent a record $9.1 billion in 2017.
More than 170 million Americans will celebrate Halloween in some way. Most will take part in going out trick-or-treating or handing out candy to youngsters.
