Louisiana Coca-Cola Lovers React to New Sugar Ingredient in Popular Soda
(Lafayette, Louisiana) - There could be significant changes coming to Coca-Cola, as the brand may switch from high-fructose corn syrup to real cane sugar in its U.S. products.
We reported earlier in the week that President Trump announced on the platform Truth Social the following:
“I have been speaking to Coca-Cola about using REAL Cane Sugar in Coke in the United States, and they have agreed to do so. I’d like to thank all of those in authority at Coca-Cola. This will be a very good move by them — You’ll see. It’s just better!”
Since that was published, Coca-Cola has responded with its statement about the potential change in its ingredients for the popular drink:
“We appreciate President Trump’s enthusiasm for our iconic Coca‑Cola brand. More details on new innovative offerings within our Coca‑Cola product range will be shared soon.”
So, our media partners at KATC TV-3 hit the road and spoke to some who love Coke, check out what they had to say about the possibility of the change. They didn't hold back once the camera started rolling tape.
We aren't sure if Coca-Cola will go along with the change, but from the sound of it, some seem to be excited about the idea of a sweeter product.
You know who else may like this change, sugarcane farmers in our area. This potential change in Coca-Cola's operations could increase demand for their product, which is grown in parts of Acadiana, and that would only mean more money for farmers in south and central Louisiana.

Now, we wait to see if Coca-Cola elects to switch to pure cane. Once the company makes an announcement, we will certainly share that here and on this station's mobile app.
Until then, stay refreshed this summer with a cold Coke..
