Seven Road Names We Need in South Louisiana
(KTDY) - A few days ago, during a traffic report on air, we came across an interesting road name that we had never heard of, and that's what sparked this idea of re-naming roads in Acadiana
We have so much culture in South Louisiana, yet some of the things we say, do, and even eat are often overlooked.
So, with that said, let's honor some of our traditions by naming roads after them, and we'll start with this one.
Living in the south, we all know someone who works in the oilfield, so why not honor this vital industry to our state's economy? If I had to place this road name anywhere in Acadiana, I'd suggest we name a road after the oilfield in the Broussard area.
Next, we name a road after what many of us love and eagerly await all year long: crawfish. Why don't we have a "Crawfish Lane" in the Breaux Bridge area? This is a must.
When you think of Acadiana, you have to mention the music and artists we have here, and we have so many great artists.
But when talking about artists from Acadiana, how can you not bring up the award-winning artist Wayne Toups? Our friend deserves his street name, and it belongs in Crowley.
Now here's an interesting street name suggestion. The mysterious Rougarou is a Louisiana legend, and even though we've yet to capture the Rougarou, we need a street name after this mysterious creature.
So, now, where do we put this street in South Louisiana? If we had to decide, it would be around Henderson, where swamps are located; after all, this may be this creature's nesting grounds.
"Tee Baw Rd" may be our favorite street name suggestion. The word "Baw" is a South Louisiana slang term, and chances are you've heard it in conversation. I think this road name should be present somewhere in Evangelline Parish.
And yes, I'd love to write this name on an envelope each time I went to drop something off at the post office.
Speaking of sayings in conversation, how many times have you walked up to someone in Acadiana and the first thing they ask you is, "How's your Mom and Them?" I think we've all heard this one, and that is why it deserves to be on a street sign.
As for where we will put this street or drive in Acadiana, how about naming a road in St. Landry Parish after this saying? Seems fitting.
The last name we suggest for a roadway in Acadian is "Blackpot Rd." The black pot has always been a staple in South Louisiana; if someone doesn't have one in their kitchen, you should consider getting them one for their birthday.
The black pot is a symbol for South Louisiana; after all, we love cooking a variety of dishes here. This road name would be perfect somewhere in Vermilion Parish.
