Drivers in Louisiana Greeted With Tree Across Basin Bridge
(KTDY) - The Friday morning commute in St Martin Parish was a bit challenging across the Basin Bridge.
Yes, it was very foggy early Friday morning, but that wasn't the biggest obstacle across the 18-mile bridge between Lafayette and Baton Rouge. Several photos sent to us and shared on social media show a tree across both eastbound lanes on the bridge.
We have been experiencing strong winds in the area, and we can only assume that the tree that fell across I-10 on Friday morning was affected by them in recent days.
Police responded quickly, and traffic on the Basiin Bridge was stopped until crews could remove the tree.
Often, when we report traffic being stopped on the Basin Bridge, it's because of an accident, but on Friday morning, it was because of the tree you see below across all lanes.
We're just glad that the tree didn't strike a vehicle as it fell onto the bridge.
Another photo submitted to us shows police on the scene as traffic came to a standstill on I-10 Friday morning.
