LAFAYETTE, La. - Downtown Lafayette will continue to be the place to be this weekend and in the coming weeks with tons of fun events planned.

This weekend, three major events are happening, two featuring great live music and family fun, and the other involves a little work, but with a great payoff.

Parish Proud Downtown Cleanup Day: Saturday Morning on Jefferson Street

The Parish Proud Downtown Cleanup Day is taking place on Saturday, May 16. In partnership with Downtown Lafayette Unlimited and the Downtown Lafayette Ambassadors, Parish Proud invites local businesses, residents, and volunteers to roll up their sleeves and help care for the heart of the city.

Volunteers will help maintain the landscape beds along Jefferson Street through light weeding and litter pickup. Below is the schedule for the cleanup event in Downtown Lafayette:

  • Volunteer Check-In & Registration at the Parish Proud Tent in the parking lot next to Pop's Poboys
  • 8:15 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. -- Volunteer Check-In & Registration
  • 9:00 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. -- Opening Remarks & Project Overview
  • 9:15 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. -- Project Worktime

Volunteers are encouraged to bring sun protection, water bottles, and landscaping or gardening gloves.

If you would like to volunteer for the event, you are encouraged to sign up ahead of time here.

Wing Wars of Acadiana: Wings, Live Music, and More at Parc International

Another big event on Saturday is the annual Wing Wars of Acadiana, a benefit for The Gifting Grace Project. Cooking teams across the region will be competing for the crown of best wings in Acadiana.

The event will take place at Parc International and runs from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is $5 with kids 10 and under free. If you'd like to enjoy some wings, those tickets are $2 per wing tasting. There will also be live music from The Sharona Thomas Band and The Cast Band, an auction, a wing toss tournament, fun jumps, face painting, and more.

Rock the Block: Free Street Party for the Louisiana Music Museum Saturday Evening

Later in the day on Saturday, May 16, the public is invited for Rock the Block, which is put on by the new Louisiana Music Museum. The celebration is being deemed as "a vibrant downtown street party dedicated to the past, present, and future of our state's incredible sound."

The party will take over the 100 block of Vermilion St. for an evening of great live music, downtown flavors, and an opportunity to support the museum.

The main stage will feature high-energy sets from two Louisiana bands:

  • 5:00 p.m. - Corey Ledet Zydeco & Black Magic
  • 6:30 p.m. - Roddie Romero and the Hub City All-Stars

Food, Merch, and Parking Details for Rock the Block

Favorite neighborhood restaurants will be serving up local eats and refreshments. Enjoy offerings from Ton's, Magnolia Pantry, Spicy Man, Black Cafe, and more.

There will also be a merch tent, where you can grab exclusive, limited-edition Louisiana Music Museum merchandise, only available at the event.
