Louisiana’s Next Big Freeze – Coming Sooner Than Later
(KMDL-FM) The official website of the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Lake Charles has posted a graphic that depicts what Louisiana can expect, as far as temperatures go, for the last few days of 2025. The graphic suggests the regions will see temperatures near average.
There is a funny conundrum about "averages" that a lot of us tend to forget when you run that word through the dictionary in our brains. Average is literally in the middle, right? Now, if you consider that most of Louisiana has been dealing with near-record heat for the past few days, what should that tell you about the next few days?

If you guessed "hooray, I get to wear my new Christmas coat," then you are "above average" in terms of your thinking about what the last few days of December and the first few days of January will feel like. They will certainly feel colder than what we are experiencing today and what we will experience over the weekend.
What Weather Warnings and Advisories Have Been Issued For Louisiana Today?
Today's big weather feature will be fog. It appears that fog will be a significant weather feature on Saturday morning as well. The excessive humidity, which is common for Louisiana this time of year, is why everything is wet outside. Everything from cars and canopies, table tops and toolsheds, they're all damp.
To go along with the damp, we do have some warmer-than-average temperatures; there's that word average again. The high temperatures today, Saturday, and Sunday will be very close to 80 degrees. The forecast high for Monday will not.

When Will It Get Cold Again In Louisiana?
The big cool down arrives with a frontal system on Sunday night. Rain chances will build into Louisiana from the west, but most of us won't really see the showers until midnight on Monday morning. Once those showers pass through, the wind will shift from the north, and your HVAC system will be unsure of its next course of action.

The forecast high for Monday is only 63, which is about a 20-degree drop from what the high temperature will be on Sunday. Temperatures should drop to near or below freezing for Monday and Tuesday morning. The daytime temperatures onTuesday and Wednesday will be quite chilly. It will only be 47 on Tuesday and 53 on Wednesday, and those are high temperatures for the day.
New Year's Eve should be clear and cool with overnight low temperatures dipping into the upper 30s. It should be sunny and a bit warmer for New Year's Day when the high makes it into the upper 60s.
