Pregnant New Iberia, Louisiana Woman Dies After Hitting 12-Foot Alligator on Highway

This past Sunday, an alligator crossing the highway caused a fatal crash, tragically taking the life of a pregnant New Iberia woman and her unborn baby.

In the early hours this past Sunday (7/16/23) 33-year-old Gabrielle Breaux and her family were involved in a fatal crash after the truck she was driving hit an alligator on State Highway 35 in Refugio County, Texas.

The Breaux family was on their way back home to New Iberia when the fatal crash occurred.

Texas Department of Public Safety Public Information Officer Sgt. Harold Mallory tells stexasnews.com that the crash occurred at approximately 5:00 a.m.

The alligator is reported to have been around 12 feet.

Gabrielle Breaux and her unborn baby perished in the crash.

Breaux was seven months pregnant.

Attempts were made to save the unborn child but were ultimately unsuccessful.

In all, five people were involved in the crash including Breaux's father Gregory Gerard, 58, and her three children aged 13, 11, and six according to dailymail.co.uk.

Officer Sgt. Harold Mallory tells stexasnews.com the four people involved in the crash are expected to make a recovery.
