
LSU Legend Skip Bertman’s Celebration of Life Set for Aug. 25
BATON ROUGE, La. - Louisiana will soon have a chance to come together and remember one of the most influential figures in LSU sports history.
Bertman died at age 88 after a brief hospitalization related to heart issues. His impact on LSU baseball, and on the university's athletic department as a whole, is one that is truly hard to measure. However, on August 25, 2026, a celebration of life is scheduled to do exactly that.

When And Where Is Skip Bertman’s Celebration Of Life?
According to WBRZ, the public celebration of life will take place at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
Doors will open to the public at 6 p.m., giving fans and those who knew Bertman an opportunity to arrive before the ceremony begins.
A private gathering for Bertman's family and former players is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. before the public celebration.
What LSU Fans Need To Know About Seating
The Skip Bertman Celebration of Life will be open to the general public, although seating will be divided between public areas and reserved sections.
General admission seating will be available in the upper bowl of the PMAC. Fans attending the event should enter through the entrance at the top of the exterior ramps.

The floor and lower-bowl sections will be reserved for members of the Bertman family and other invited guests.

General public parking will be available in lots 401 and 404 as well as other available lots surrounding the PMAC.
The event will be broadcast live on ESPN+ along with the LSU Sports YouTube and Facebook pages.
Skip Bertman Changed LSU Baseball Forever
When Bertman took over the Tigers' baseball program in 1984, LSU wasn't yet the national powerhouse that fans know today. Over the course of his coaching career, he helped turn the program into one of the most successful teams in college baseball.
Bertman led LSU to five national championships, winning College World Series titles in 1991, 1993, 1996, 1997 and 2000. LSU also made 11 College World Series appearances during his tenure.

His success eventually earned him a place in the College Baseball Hall of Fame, and LSU retired his No. 15 baseball jersey.
LSU also honored Bertman with a statue on campus.
The Bertman family is asking people who wish to honor Skip's memory to consider making a donation rather than sending flowers.
Suggested organizations include Athletes for Hope, the College Baseball Hall of Fame, the LSU Baseball Coach's Committee and the Skip Bertman Leadership Endowed Scholarship.
