The Time Alex Trebek Hilariously Attempted a Louisiana Cajun Accent on ‘Jeopardy!’
Louisiana accents are really tough to mimic, especially Cajun accents. The late, great "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek once tried to read an answer in a Cajun accent on the beloved game show, and the results were as hilarious.
Alex Trebek Speaks In A Louisiana Cajun Accent
Alex Trebek was best known as the host of the popular game show "Jeopardy!" for 36 years, from its revival in 1984 until his death in 2020.
Born George Alexander Trebek on July 22, 1940, in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, he became one of the most iconic figures in game show history, renowned for his calm demeanor, intelligence, and sense of humor.
Before his tenure on "Jeopardy!," Trebek hosted a number of other game shows, including "High Rollers," "Double Dare," and "The Wizard of Odds."
For his work as the host of "Jeopardy!", Trebek earned seven Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Game Show Host.
In March 2019, Trebek announced that he had been diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. He continued to host "Jeopardy!" throughout his treatment, sharing updates on his condition and remaining optimistic and resilient in the face of his illness.
Trebek passed away on November 8, 2020, at the age of 80.
What you may or may not remember is the time Alex Trebek took a swing and a miss speaking in the best Cajun accent he could muster.
The category was "Peppers" and the question was "What are Cayenne Peppers?", but it's Trebek's reading of the answer is where the magic happens.
Normally we'd poke more fun at someone who butchered a Cajun accent like this, but we love Alex Trebek.
Instead, let's just enjoy this slice of game show meets Cajun culture and have a big big smile.
