Back in 2019, I remember writing a story about Drew Brees wanting to sell sliders out of a shipping container in Baton Rouge.

At the time, Drew and his wife Brittany had already bought into Walk-On’s with CEO and co-founder Brandon Landry.

Fast forward to 2023, and Drew’s wish of selling sliders from that shipping container came true, and Smalls Sliders is expanding rapidly throughout Louisiana with the latest location to open up in Lafayette, Louisiana.

From the moment Smalls Sliders opened its doors last week, locals couldn't resist the allure of the quirky new slider joint. A line wrapped around the stacked orange shipping container building and down the street, filled with eager folks hoping to get a taste of their tiny delights.

Brandon Landry, the beaming co-founder of Smalls Sliders, was present during the grand opening, and his excitement was palpable. Lafayette holds a special place in Landry's heart, almost like a second home. It was right here that the first Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux outside of Baton Rouge made its debut, and the rest is history.

Since those humble beginnings, Walk-On's has experienced an explosive journey, transforming into a national chain spanning over 15 states, backed by partners and franchisees like Drew Brees and Dak Prescott.

During an exclusive interview with Lafayette Travel on Smalls' opening day, Landry revealed the subtle connection between Walk-On's and Smalls Sliders, particularly for those familiar with the appetizers at the beloved Sports Bistreaux.

And indeed, those who have been fortunate enough to savor Small's Sliders noticed a striking resemblance to the iconic sliders at Walk-On's. While Smalls brings its own unique twist with their signature "Smauce" and special preparation techniques, a few astute customers have already connected the dots.

Sunday was no exception, with the Small's drive-thru bustling with activity, as the aroma of sliders filled the air. Acadiana is clearly on a mission to indulge in the delectable goodness that Smalls Sliders offers.

With a broad smile, Landry emphasized that despite Smalls Sliders' expansion as a chain, it maintains an unmistakable local charm, largely due to the unwavering support and investment of both Landry and Drew Brees in the Lafayette community. Their shared vision and belief in Lafayette's potential for growth have nurtured a genuine bond between them and the city.

While the sliders may be small in size, they pack a powerful punch of flavors and an even more significant impact on Lafayette's culinary scene. Smalls Sliders, with its iconic duo at the helm, has firmly cemented itself as a homegrown sensation that's here to stay.
