The southbound lanes of the SE Evangeline Thruway near Sixth Street are currently closed to vehicle traffic following an incident involving a downed electrical pole. According to Sgt. Matt Benoit with the Lafayette Police Department, the closure is the result of a single-vehicle crash that occurred just after 6:00 p.m. today. In the crash, a vehicle struck the pole, causing it to fall into the roadway.

No reported injuries have been reported from the crash. Emergency services and utility workers swiftly responded to the scene to assess the situation and begin safely removing the damaged pole. The closure of the southbound lanes is expected to last for several hours as crews work diligently to clear the roadway and restore normal traffic flow.

Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes and exercise caution near the closure. Updates will be provided as soon as the roadway reopens and vehicle traffic can resume.
