Jindal: Flags At Half-Staff To Remember Boggs
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Flags at all of Louisiana's state buildings will be flown at half-staff in honor of former Congresswoman Lindy Boggs.
Gov. Bobby Jindal issued the executive order Monday, requiring the action until sunset Friday.
Boggs, a native of Pointe Coupee Parish, died Saturday at the age of 97.
In the order, Jindal said Boggs lived a life of service and worked to better the lives of Louisiana citizens.
She spent nearly 18 years, from 1973 through 1990, representing the New Orleans area in Congress after succeeding her husband in the seat. She was the first woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Louisiana.
She later served three years as ambassador to the Vatican during the Clinton administration.
