Former Louisiana Representative, Lindy Boggs who was the mother of ABC News journalist Cokie Roberts died of natural causes this morning at her home in Chevy Chase, Maryland.  She was 97.

Boggs served 18 years in Congress after the death of her husband, Hale Boggs.  After her term in Congress Boggs served as Ambassador to the Vatican during the Bill Clinton administration.

Mrs. Boggs began her Washington career after winning a special election to finish the term of her late husband Hale Boggs was killed 6 months previously in a plane crash in Alaska.
