Former Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office deputy and former candidate for Lafayette City Marshal Kip Judice was appointed Tuesday evening as the Chief of Police for the town of Duson.

The Duson Board of Alderman voted unanimously to appoint Judice to the position after it was vacated in July amid allegations former chief Frank Andrew was gambling while on the job.

"I felt like the timing was right and I felt like the people of Duson really needed somebody with my abilities to come here and manage the police department," Judice told KLFY-TV 10.

Judice inherits a backlog of felony arrest reports that were never turned in to the district attorney's office and an evidence room full of unmarked evidence and empty cash bags.

Judice will join "Nathan & Bernie in the Morning" Thursday at 7:10 a.m.
