Reports began to surface late yesterday of a proposed merger between Lafayette General and Ochsner Health Systems. According to a story reported by KATC, a letter of intent is already in place following a board meeting last night.

According to the story, the merger between the two healthcare facilities will not mean any loss of jobs in the Lafayette area. In fact, reports indicate that even more opportunities in health care could be made available in the Lafayette area should the proposed merger move forward.

KATC is reporting that many of those opportunities would involve higher pay and could become a reality in a matter of months, should the merger proceed. It has also been reported that management decisions for LGMC would still be based out of Lafayette.

Ochsner and Lafayette General Health have been involved in a strategic partnership together since 2015. Officials with LGMC and with Ochsner Health Systems are expected to address the reported merger later today.
