Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory Reveals Encouraging Statistic
During Tuesday's daily coronavirus press conference, Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory revealed the rate of confirmed cases to tests is about four percent, which he says is among the lowest in the state.
“That statistic, though, is a bit misleading, considering some local testing load is from surrounding parishes,” said Guillory.
He says the relatively low rate of positive tests is an encouraging sign that social distancing efforts are working, but Lafayette hasn’t reached its peak, so we shouldn't become complacent.
“If data in the next few days continues the current trend, we may see the rate of increases starting to slow, suggesting that peak infection is near,” Guillory said. ““We can’t become complacent. Diligently follow social distancing guidelines. We need to keep doing what we’re doing as part of the 30 days to slow the spread guidance from the CDC.”
Currently, Lafayette Parish continues to have the most cases in the region with 272, as well as the most deaths with 7.
Guillory’s stay-at-home order stays in effect until April 30, 2020.
