Lafayette Parish Residents Being Targeted In Phone Scam

If you get a phone call from a Lt. Michael Harris or Lt. Robertson claiming to be with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's office hang up and call the sheriff's office.

A scam artist is calling and telling people they've missed jury duty and a warrant has been issued against them. The con man says the matter can be resolved with a $500 payment with a green dot gift card or an online fund transfer.

Capt. Kip Judice with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's office says that matters of this type are never handled over the phone and does not require online transfers or gift cards. Judice further says you should not hand over money to a deputy in the field as all monetary transactions are handled at the Sheriff's office.
