Lafayette, Louisiana is excited for Mardi Gras and soon the parades will be rolling through downtown and along Johnston Street.

Mardi Gras is all about having fun, but the Lafayette Police Department has a few reminders for those who plan to attend the parades this year.

For one, these parades are family-friendly and that is why so many people come to Lafayette for the celebration. With that said, LPD reminds you to leave all glass containers at home and to always stay behind the barricades. This is for the safety of all.

In addition to that, police encourage you to leave your pets at home. With large crowds and a lot of noise, your pets can be startled and LPD does not want anyone to be injured by a pet, or cause your pet to have anxiety as the parades roll past you.

Drones are a hot topic this year and LPD reminds you that they are not permitted along the parade route. Fireworks are also not allowed for the parades rolling through Lafayette.

Now, let's get to the vulgar things surrounding Mardi Gras. Music should always be clean edits, there are a lot of children around, and you are not allowed to "flash" floats as they pass by you. If you want the beads and throws from floats, make a lot of noise or get creative with your signs.

Plus, you are not allowed to wear clothing or items that depict nudity for the Lafayette Mardi Gras parades.

Go out to the parades and have fun, but please be respectful. If you have small kids, it has been recommended through the years that you put your contact number in their pocket in the event you are separated from your child.
