THIBODAUX, La. (AP) — Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office officials have delivered 200 bicycles to underprivileged children as part of the agency's annual Christmas Bike Giveaway program.

The Daily Comet reports that some of the bikes delivered Monday were new. But most were used ones that were donated and repaired.

Lt. Elliot Day, who has been working with the bike program since he began working with the Sheriff's Office 17 years ago, said he has enjoyed watching it grow.

The program began in 1994 and has expanded to include Grand Isle. Deputies have delivered more than 3,000 bicycles in the program's history and 269 bicycles last year alone.
