By unanimous vote members of the Lake Arthur City Council approved a measure that would allow residents to operate golf carts on city streets during daylight hours. The new guidelines that were approved at last night's meeting of the council will apply to gas and electric powered carts.

There are also other stipulations in place concerning the kind of safety equipment each cart must have in order to be operated lawfully on the streets of Lake Arthur. First, the operator must be a licensed driver. Second, the carts may only be driven on city streets during daylight hours.

The other stipulations imposed by the council include adequate headlights and brake lights. The carts would also need to be outfitted with turn signals and mirrors too. Those who support the measure say the carts will make it easier for many residents to get around town.
