Washington, D.C.

– United States Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., issued the following statement today, expressing her concern and support for the victims of the tornado that struck Rayne, Louisiana on Saturday, killing one, injuring as many as a dozen others, and destroying or damaging more than 100 homes.

Landrieu said:  “The people of Rayne are in my thoughts and prayers.  I am particularly concerned about those injured and their families as well as those who lost homes.  My heart goes out to the 15-month-old boy whose mom was killed when a tree hit their house as she was shielding the child from falling debris.  Mayor Jim Petitjean can count on my full support in dealing with this tragedy.  I stand ready to do all I can to help the people of Rayne in their time of need as they recover from this devastating tornado.”
