Louisiana Man Claims $1M Powerball Prize Just In The Nick Of Time
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — With just a few days to spare, a 53-year-old Montegut man has stepped forward to claim a $1 million Powerball prize won on Aug. 5, 2015.
The ticket was due to expire on Monday, Feb. 1.
Laine Aucoin's ticket matched all five white-ball numbers, but missed the red Powerball number in that drawing.
On Wednesday, he received $700,000 after federal and state taxes were withheld. He didn't indicate what his plans are for the cash.
The winning ticket was purchased at Pointe-Aux-Chenes Supermarket in Montegut. The store received a one-time selling bonus of $10,000, which is 1 percent of the prize.
Store owner Donna Dupre says she's happy someone finally stepped forward to claim the prize and that the winner was a local resident.
