An East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Deputy suffered a broken ankle last night in New Orleans when a car hit him while he was directing traffic following the Super Bowl.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, the incident happened around 10:30 pm Sunday at the intersection of Poydras Street and Convention Center Boulevard (several blocks from the Superdome).

The deputy was assisting with post-game traffic control when a dually truck clipped his ankle with one of its back tires.

The driver of the truck either did not notice what happened or they drove off. New Orleans police were able to find the truck about an hour later.

Officials were able to collect toxicology samples from the driver of the truck as part of the investigation.

EBRSO said the deputy will likely need surgery for his ankle but otherwise is expected to be okay.

Not-So-Nice Nicknames for 10 Louisiana Towns

Nicknames are a wonderful thing if you happen to be given the right one. That's the problem with nicknames, you don't get to pick your own. So, depending on the kind of people you hang out with your pseudonym is either a flattering referral to a trait you own. Or it's a sarcastic reminder of your shortcomings. The same rules apply when it comes to the nicknames we use for the communities we love. Although, from some of these nicknames, I'm not sure I can feel the love tonight, or any night for that matter.
