Tornadoes Confirmed Across Louisiana as Video of Bus Driver Riding Out Chaos Goes Viral
Severe storms tore through South Louisiana early Monday morning, bringing powerful wind, hail, flooding rains, and confirmed tornadoes across multiple parishes. The chaos, which began before sunrise, left thousands waking up without power and triggered school delays and closures across the region.
Among the flood of storm-related updates, one video quickly began to make its rounds on social media. It showed a school bus driver in Springfield pulling over to the side of the road while what appeared to be a tornado passed through the area. The video, shared by WBRZ, captured the scary moment as the bus rocked in heavy wind and rain during a Tornado Warning issued for parts of Livingston and Tangipahoa Parishes.
While it hasn’t been confirmed whether the funnel seen in the video was part of a specific tornado, multiple touchdowns were confirmed in the region. The National Weather Service continues to assess the full extent of Monday’s damage.
The video sparked immediate reaction online, with many commenters criticizing school systems for keeping buses on the road under such dangerous conditions.
“Buses, drivers and students shouldn’t have been in this weather,” wrote Amy Gann Dufrene.
“School should have canceled!!! No sense in putting kids or bus drivers in this!!!!” added Joyce Kittrell Langlois.
“So glad this situation turned out well. Kudos to the bus driver!” said Lorraine Henry.
In Lafayette Parish, the school system issued guidance ahead of the storms. Communications Director Tracy Wirtz said, “We sent messages last night to bus drivers and school administrators in preparation for this morning… Bus drivers have been asked to proceed with caution.”
Elsewhere around Louisiana, lightning reportedly struck oil tanks, sparking fires, and widespread damage from downed trees and flooding is being reported.
The situation remains fluid as communities assess damage and utility crews work to restore power. Schools and emergency officials across South Louisiana are asking residents to remain cautious as the cleanup continues.
