Elected officials in Louisiana have plenty to say about the second assassination attempt on the life of former President Donald Trump. FBI officials say they arrested 58-year-old suspect Ryan Routh as they continue to investigate his background and work to determine the man's motive for aiming a gun through the fence at Trump's International Gulf Course Sunday afternoon.

A member of the Secret Service saw a rifle had been thrust through the fence at the golf course and fired two shots in the direction of Routh. The suspect was then seen and photographed by a member of the public fleeing from the bushes, jumping into a vehicle, and driving away. Members of the Martin County Sheriff's Office were able to stop Routh's vehicle on I-95, and he was taken into custody without incident.

Louisiana Congressman and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and his wife were visiting with former President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago yesterday. They were able to speak with him following the second assassination attempt.

Also speaking via X Sunday was U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy praising the Secret Service for their protection of Trump:

Sharon and I are praying for President Trump and his family's continued safety.

Louisiana Congressman Troy Carter had the following statement to make following the attempt on Trump's life Sunday:

The first attempt that happened on Trump's life happened two months ago in Butler, Pennsylvania. A report on the internal review by the Secret Service is expected to be released this week, and Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal says the report is shocking. He told Fox News,

I think the American people are going to be shocked, astonished, and appalled by what we will report to them about the failures of the Secret Service in this assassination attempt on the former president.

The report is expected to be released this week.
