When Concord, New Hampshire's first baby of 2017 was born, his father lost his job.

Lamar Austin was fired from his part time job as a security guard after skipping work to attend the birth of his son, Cainan. The Concord Monitor reports Austin, a military veteran, was hired on a 90-day trial basis by Salerno Protective Services. His New Year's Eve absence was only a month into his probationary period, and they let him go.

He was terminated via text at 1:00 a.m. New Year's morning. The company declined comment.

Austin has since received at least three job offers. A gofundme has raised $10,000 for the family.

I guess that says it all. Congratulations, and Happy New Year!
