Man Killed Standing In The Middle Of The Road
Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a man's death after he was hit by a car on Highway 167 near Teljean Road. The responding trooper reports that 57-year-old Brent Abshire of Kaplan was standing in the roadway when he was hit.
The preliminary information about the death is that 33-year-old Laura Gallegos of Abbeville was driving southbound on the road in the left lane, but switching to the right lane, when she struck Abshire who was standing in the roadway.
Absire's body ended up in the right lane of the road where it was hit by a car driven by 20-year-old Janee Segura of Abbeville and a third car driving by 18-year-old Luke Coa of Lafayette.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafayette Parish Coroner's Office.
Troopers say all three drivers were found to be clear of alcohol after they each submitted to a breath test, and it's not known right now whether or not Abshire had anything in his system.
The investigation is ongoing.
Troopers encourage people to avoid walking in any lanes of travel and especially to avoid those areas at night.
Brooks David says nearly 70 percent of all deaths involving pedestrian happen during the night.
Anytime you are walking you are encouraged to do the following:
- Wear light colored clothing
- Reflective materials
