No Free City Bus Service For UL Lafayette Students
UL Lafayette students and staff won't be riding city buses for free just yet.
Although the Lafayette City-Parish Council voted Tuesday to lease some of its unused buses to expand the fleet carting students to and from Cajun Field, it nixed a measure that would have allowed free citywide bus service for those same university riders.
Five of the eight leased buses will be in use daily from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the other three set for use as spares.
The two-year contract costs UL $10,240 a year, also requiring it to pay 20 percent of major repairs on the buses and to fuel up at the city-run natural gas station.
