Plans Confirmed for $60 Million Water Park at One of Texas’ Favorite Destinations
( KPEL-FM) Summertime in Texas can be brutally hot. That's no secret to anyone whose sunglasses have melted on the dashboard of their car in Dallas. Or perhaps you've experienced the sensation of asphalt from the street sticking to your shoes on a hot day in San Marcos. Maybe that's why we Texans love the water so much.
Now we don't like it when hurricanes push the Gulf into our homes or a supercell thunderstorm turns our backyard into Lake Livingston, Lake Ray Roberts, or even Lake Lewisville. Even though George Strait sang about Ocean Front Property most of us only really want that when we go on vacation.
But, when the water isn't attacking us, we do love it a lot in Texas. Maybe that's why our state has so many water-themed attractions. Or it could be it's just so darned hot we get delirious and we've just had to find a way to learn to love the water. All kidding aside Texas does have some kick-butt lazy rivers and swimming pools.
The love of sunshine and staying cool does not seem confined to just Texas. All along the Gulf Coast there are water parks and other attractions that cater to families, young adults, old people who should put on more clothes, and those who just love the smell of coconut oil and chlorine.
If you love a good water park we have something to put in your "future file" for perhaps as early as 2027 but more likely spring of 2029. The developers at Leisure Sports and Recreation Group based out of Covington, Louisiana have announced plans for a new destination in the Gulf South.
What's The Name of the New Gulf Coast Water Park?
It's going to be called Jubilee Park and it's described as a 90-acre water park and recreation center. The projected $60 million project would be situated on land near an aquatic center and a 10-field soccer complex.
Jubilee Park's plans also include a waterslide, a wave pool, a lazy river, and other water-based activities. The park will also feature an indoor multi-use center, RV and bungalow sites, and an indoor water park.
Based on estimates from the developer the new water park could receive between 400,000 and 500,000 every year and is expected to add almost $5 million to local tax coffers directly and indirectly once the facility is opened.
Where Will Jubilee Park Be Located?
Jubilee Park is located a few hours east of the Texas line for travelers on I-10. The proposed site is in Mobile County Alabama. The tract of land that will be developed is in close proximity to the I-10/I-65 interchange. If you played your cards right you could enjoy this new water park and experience the thrill of shopping at the worst Buc-ee's location in the history of history, also in Alabama.
Sure, there are water parks and destinations that are closer. But, we know a lot of you like to spend some time on the beaches of Lower Alabama and Florida. And since you're going to be going there anyway, we figured you'd appreciate the heads up for what's coming in the next few years. Safe Travels.
