A decision is expected in the next week in the case of a Shreveport Abortion Clinic which is pending before the United States Supreme Court.

June Medical Services LLC (doing business as Hope Medical Group) v. Russo is a challenge to the Louisiana Unsafe Abortion Protection Act (620) which mandates that doctors performing abortions have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the abortion clinic. Doctors who violate this order can be put in prison and/or fined.

Clinics and doctors have challenged the Louisiana law, questioning its constitutionality while the state has filed a counter suit questioning the right of the doctors and clinics to sue on behalf of their patients.

Former Governor Bobby Jindal signed the bill in 2014 and that began the legal fight. June Medical Services LLC  two other clinics (Bossier Clinic and Choice), and two doctors (John Doe 1 and John Doe 2) who perform abortions at these clinics requested an injunction to prevent the state from enforcing the law.

Since the fight began, two abortion clinics (Bossier City Medical Suite and Causeway Medical Clinic in Metairie) closed. Louisiana now has 3 clinics still performing abortions.

Chief Justice John Roberts is expected to be the swing vote on this case which will be the high court's first major ruling on abortion during the Trump presidency. This decision will likely give us a clue about whether or not the Supreme Court might be ready to revisit the Roe V Wade decision which legalized abortion in 1973.
