United States Senator John Kennedy talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright about the recent audit that showed millions of dollars in state Medicaid fraud and his efforts to renew federal flood insurance legislation.

Because of the audit, Kennedy has called for the resignation of Louisiana's Health Department Secretary, Rebekah Gee. From thenewsstar.com:

U.S. Sen. John Kennedy called for Louisiana Health Department Secretary Rebekah Gee to resign following an audit showing the state may have misspent up to $85 million on Medicaid recipients who are ineligible for the program.

Kennedy said he will author federal legislation requiring all states to be more stringent in verifying Medicaid eligibility.

The Senator is also critical of Governor John Bel Edwards for his post-audit vote of confidence for Gee.

Kennedy also discussed his co-sponsorship (with other lawmakers including Louisiana's Bill Cassidy) to renew the National Flood Insurance Program, which expires at the end of this month. But he also expressed frustration at the legislature's inability to craft and pass long term flood insurance reform.
