ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) — All Rapides Parish Sheriff's substations will be fully operational again when the South Alexandria substation reopens.

The Town Talk reports the South Alexandria substation will re-open in a new location at the Pill Box Pharmacy on Wednesday.

After Chuck Wagner was elected sheriff in 2007 he cut substation staffs and centralized all dispatching from the courthouse in Alexandria.

Sheriff William Earl Hilton, who served four previous terms as sheriff, returned to office in 2012.

The South Alexandria substation will handle the deputies assigned to the southeast parts of Rapides Parish, including the Poland, Echo, Lecompte and Cheneyville communities.

Hilton reinstated 24-hour operation and dispatching to the Boyce, Glenmora, Tioga and Deville substations in August 2012.
