The St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office held their annual Christmas toy giveaway to give gifts to 145 families.  Some 397 children were the recipients of gifts.

Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz stated,

“We hand pick underprivileged families to distribute the toys to. The event wouldn’t be possible without partnering with the United States Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program, and leadership and hard work of Administrative Assistant, Lillian Savoy, and deputies Johnny Young and Lisa Gaudet.”

Administrative Assistant, Lillian Savoy has organized the event for the past six years.

Each of the children got to spend time with Santa Claus and parents were given gifts to put under the Christmas tree for Christmas morning.

Lillian Savoy with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office says,

“Sheriff Guidroz often encounters families at their worst, and as a result he is well aware of the level of poverty and need in this parish, one of the poorest in one of nation’s poorest states. We were able to help 20 children that first year, and it has just grown and grown.”
