The St. Landry Parish School Board has made the decision to wait until after a public hearing before voting on a proposed budget.

The board will wait until after the September 5 public hearing before voting on the proposed 2013-14 general fund budget.

Board attorney Gerard Caswell says he can't be sure a public hearing on the $103 million budget happened this week at the finance committee meeting.

Caswell says he went back to look at the committee's report of the meeting, but there was no information on a public hearing being held.

The head of the finance committee, Raymond Cassimere, says a hearing on the proposed budget did happen even if the meeting notes don't show it.

Board President Harry Fruge said they need to make sure there are public hearings on these issues before they take action.
