The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's deputy who was shot while responding to a call on Dumesnil Road in Ashton on December 27, has been released from the hospital, and he is now at home continuing to recuperate.

Deputies were called out to the home after getting a call about a possible shooting, and that's were deputies found an injured man.  After that the officer was hit by a least one person shooting.

The man barricaded himself inside the home, and it was hours before he find turned himself over to the authorities.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office says they don't know the exact date he will return to work, but he is expected to be able to return to the Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office wants to thank the many people who offered their thoughts and expressed concern for the well-being of the deputy.
