A previous finalist for the position of superintendent of Lafayette Parish public schools has applied for the job again.

Don Aguillard, who is currently the superintendent in St. Mary Parish, told the Advocate he submitted his application Monday.

Aguillard has a history with the Lafayette school system: he served in some capacity, including classroom teacher and central office administrator, for more than 28 years until he became the St. Mary Parish superintendent.

St. Mary Parish School System received a B letter grade in the past three school years from the Louisiana Department of Education.

The application deadline for the superintendent job is March 27.

The school board plans to fill the position in May ahead of interim Superintendent Burnell LeJeune’s retirement this summer.
