The Lafayette Parish School Board will progress with its new superintendent search this week as three finalists have been chosen.

On Wednesday, the Board will meet to interview the three finalists chosen from a field of 12 that included applicants from Louisiana, but also as far away as New Jersey, Colorado and Montana.

The finalists include:

  • Don Aguillard, St. Mary Parish Schools superintendent
  • Carlos Sam, associate superintendent of East Baton Rouge Parish schools
  • Francis Touchet Jr., Louisiana Department of Education network leader providing support to school districts

According to Suzanne Thibodeaux, human resources assistant director, the order of the interviews will be determined at random. The interview process, which will be open to the public, will be held at the School System Central Office at 113 Chaplin Dr. at 5:30 p.m.

Board members have said they would like to have a new superintendent in place in time to train with interim Superintendent Burnell LeJeune, who plans to retire in July.
