It seems like everyone in Texas is on social media these days and with that comes a few potential threats, and we want you to be aware of one.

Social Media was designed to keep people connected and informed, and for the most part that mission has been accomplished, but there are some on all platforms that are looking to take advantage of you and me.

Like with bank accounts, credit cards, and other personal items, your social media pages are a target for hackers and they are getting better these days.

Have you ever received an email that looks legit, but you later find out that it is spam or not what you thought it was? If you have, you aren't the only one.

Hackers are now sending emails to you that look like legit links for Meta, but they aren't. Once you click the email, the hacker has your information and can take over your social media page.

Once the hacker gains control of your page, they have access to your photos, personal information, and even Messenger. Once in your account, they can message all of your friends, from your account, to gain access to your friend's page.

If you've ever received a message from a friend on social media asking for your personal information, chances are your friend's account has been hacked. As a reminder, NEVER give out your phone number to anyone asking for on it social media.

Many of our social media pages are attached to our phone number and once you submit your number to a potential hacker in Messenger, they can gain access to your page and you become a victim.

Again, hackers on social media are becoming more convincing these days and you should never click or open anything that you are not expecting. In many cyber security videos experts tell you to often trust your "gut" and if something doesn't feel right, DELETE it.

I encourage you to pass this on to your friends and family so that they are aware of the threat and they don't lose access to their social media pages.
