Lafayette Community Surprises 5-Year-Old with an Unforgettable Birthday Parade of Cars
Something truly special happened this week in Youngsville, and it all started with a simple Facebook post from a mom.
Emmi Romero wanted to do something fun for her son Walker’s 5th birthday. She made a post asking if anyone nearby had a “cool vehicle” and could drive by their home in the Sabal Palms neighborhood. She said her son loves all kinds of vehicles—trucks, Jeeps, police cars, motorcycles—you name it.
What happened next was more than anyone expected.
People from all over the area showed up. There were sports cars revving their engines, lifted trucks with big tires, tow trucks, Jeeps, motorcycles, police cruisers, ambulances—basically, everything that rolls on wheels. One police officer even let Walker talk through the intercom.
Walker was in shock. Dozens and dozens of vehicles passed by, and many of them brought gifts. He waved, smiled, and watched in amazement as the community came together just for him.
“I have no words,” Emmi wrote on Facebook. “Our community is amazing… He truly appreciated every single vehicle.”
The comments flooded in. Some people said they were in the parade and cried when they saw Walker’s reaction. Others said they couldn’t stop smiling or that the videos made them tear up. One person wrote, “I don’t even know this little boy, and I’m crying.”

This wasn’t just a birthday drive-by. It was something bigger—a reminder of how much love and kindness (especially for strangers) lives in our South Louisiana communities like Youngsville, Broussard, and beyond. We hear people say it all the time, but this was proof: when someone needs a little joy, Acadiana always shows up with "lagniappe"—that little extra something special.
And for one very happy 5-year-old, it turned into a day he’ll never forget.
