A young man who was set to be a Sophomore at Carencro High School was killed Saturday morning when the bicycle he was riding was struck by a car. The incident happened at the intersection of the Northwest Frontage Road and Butcher Switch Road in Carencro.

The family of 15 year old Juwan Washington say he was riding his bicycle home from helping a friend move. His bike was stuck by a 2008 Toyota Scion. The driver of that vehicle, whose age was listed at 63, has not been identified.

Washington was transported to a local  hospital where he died from his injuries. The incident remains under investigation.

According to a report from our news partners at KATC TV 3 Washington was the quarterback of the freshman football team at Carencro High School. He was set to make the transition to the varsity this year perhaps switching to a different position on the field.

Grief counselors have been made available for members of the football team or anyone else who might be in need of those services.
