If you were having an anxiety attack because you thought Mardi Gras was cancelled all over the state, have no fear, because there are still some new and fun activities to celebrate our most famous holiday. And if you've ever enjoyed the fun on the water, or antiquing in the beautiful little town of New Roads, you might want to head on over this weekend for a brand new Mardi Gras happenings.

New Roads is known as the "Little Carnival Capital", and with their traditional events in 2021 cancelled, city officials have found a way for locals to enjoy Mardi Gras, and help the city out at the same time. "Floats in the Prettiest City on the Water" is a stationary parade that is being held through Fat Tuesday, February 16th. It's situated in the historic old cottonseed mill, which also hosts many other local events throughout the year, (and is a really cool space, by the way!)

According to their website, the mill will be transformed into carnival central, and cars driving through will be able to view floats on display from the Lions Club, Carnival Club, and other krewes from around the state. Citizens are also encouraged to decorate their vehicles on Mardi Gras day, and bring beads to throw into the bullseye inside the mill.

Tickets are on sale in advance, for $10 a carload, and walk-ups will be prohibited. WAFB says Mayor Dukes, the Pointe Coupee Sheriff’s Office, New Roads Police Department, and Pointe Coupee Parish Government is hosting the drive-through family-friendly event
