ABBEVILLE, La. (KPEL) -- Police in Abbeville are searching for a suspect whom they say has a mental disorder and who is wanted on a charge of simple battery stemming from a Tuesday night incident.

Police said they received a complaint that 20-year-old Michael Roche, Jr., got into a "disturbance" with his sister. She told investigators that he allegedly "jumped on her and made threats...to kill her if she called the police."

Responding officers found the home locked, but they could hear noise and movement and the sound of a young child crying inside, police said. After making several attempts to make contact with anyone inside, police called the Vermillion Parish Sheriff's Office and the department's SWAT team.

Police tried for several hours to make contact before finally breaking into the home, where they found four children, but there was no sign of Roche. The sister and the four children were taken to a local hospital and then brought to a safe location, police said.

If you have any idea where Roche may be, you're urged to call the Abbeville Police Department.
