A Louisiana woman's ear was nearly ripped off on Saturday night by a man who entered her apartment demanding a cigarette.

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, 54-year-old Donald Valentine allegedly broke into an apartment at a mental health housing facility for formerly homeless people around 9:30 pm and demanded a cigarette.

Police said that someone in the apartment told Valentine to leave and he went into a different apartment with the same request.

When a woman told him to leave, he hit her in the arm with a blunt object. He caused a large knot on the woman's arm and what appeared to be a possible broken bone.

Arrest documents show that the woman ran to a different apartment and Valentine followed her.

The occupant of that apartment begged Valentine to leave, but instead, he turned around, locked the door, and said he was going to kill one of the victims. He then picked up a full-size rocking chair and began beating a 64-year-old woman with the object.

Police said he hit the woman in the head and face multiple times. Thankfully, one of the victims was able to restrain Valentine until police arrived.

According to the arrest affidavit, Valentine resisted arrest and dislodged the officer's bodycam during the struggle to get him in handcuffs.

The officer said that after Valentine was in custody, he saw the victim was bleeding from her ear and that it was "barely dangling by skin on her head."

Officers reported that Valentine said multiple times that he wanted to kill the victim because she made him mad.
